Viola
The Viola is a string instrument with 4 strings. It is slightly larger than a Violin, but smaller than a Cello in the String Family. Sound is created by drawing a bow across one or more strings to create vibrations, plucking the strings with your fingers, or various other advanced techniques. Rosin is used on the bow to make it grip the string, causing the string to vibrate. A Viola rental includes the case, bow, and rosin. Shoulder rests can also be purchased to make playing more comfortable and promote proper posture.

There is a small amount of required maintenance that comes with owning a Viola, the most time consuming of which is Tuning. The Viola should be tuned every day, or every time it is taken out of the case. In the beginning many instructors will do this for them, but in time your child will learn to tune the instrument themselves. Strings should also be periodically replaced and the surface should be wiped down after practicing to avoid rosin build-up, which can be sticky and difficult to remove if left alone.
Viola's come in different sizes, generally ranging from 11" - 15 1/2". As your child grows, our Step-Up program grows the instrument with them.
An important thing to always remember: If your child shows an interest in playing an instrument, be sure to show them support! Don't be afraid an instrument is too heavy or too complicated for your child. Let them explore their musical talents, no matter how strange you may think it is. Encouragement is the key to success.
