Saxophone

Alto Saxophone

The Alto Saxophone is a member of the woodwind family. Sound is made by blowing over a piece of wood attached to the mouthpiece called a Reed. The reed vibrates and sends sound through the instrument. Different notes are made by opening and closing keys on the saxophone. The instrument is held by attaching it to a neck strap and balancing it with the thumb rest located on the back of the instrument. An Alto Saxophone rental includes the case, one (1) reed, neck strap, cork grease, and cleaning swab.

Basic alto saxophone maintenance is easy. Reeds will need to be replaced on a regular basis, as they break or wear out. Beginners will likely go through them very quickly. The saxophone should also be cleaned after each use by swabbing out the inside with a cleaning swab to remove any moisture. Reeds can be stored in a reed guard which will protect and extend the life of the reed. Cleaning the mouthpiece occasionally with warm, soapy water will kill any germs.

An important thing to always remember: If your child shows an interest in playing an instrument, be sure to show them support! Don't be afraid an instrument is too heavy, too complicated or too big for your child. Let them explore their musical talents, no matter how strange you may think it is. Encouragement is the key to success.
